Back to School Picnic - Union Park - August 25

On August 25, 2018, residents and staff of Leslie’s Place worked as volunteers at the Back to School Picnic in Union Park sponsored by Chicago Alderman Walter Burnett.

Leslie’s Place resident Linda reported:  (1) It was nice to see the community come together to support the young people success in going back to school and the importance of staying in school. I volunteered at the children’s area and it was nice to see the kids playing and helping each other. They were making sure that no one got injured the older children were helping the younger ones. It was a really beautiful experience.

And House Manager Sheilia added:  (1) The park was already full when we arrived. People were enjoying themselves, the kids were having a ball while they were blowing up the castle. We ate corn on the cob, hot dogs and hamburgers. The food was so good and it was a time of good clean fun. The kids received haircuts, and the adults got massages. Good music was playing and all of this was hosted by Alderman Walter Burnett.
